About

Painted Wolf LLC builds open-source AI coding tools that run where you do. Our flagship is Painted Wolf Code: an open-source AI coding agent that runs on your hardware, connects to the model providers you already pay for, and keeps your code local.

Who’s behind it

Painted Wolf LLC was founded by Chris Beckman, who created Painted Wolf Code.

How it’s built

Painted Wolf Code is not a fork of an existing editor. It is a desktop shell written in Rust over a local engine written in Go, built from scratch.

If it has been useful to you, tell a colleague who would use it, or star the project on GitHub.

A note on real painted wolves

The African painted wolf — Lycaon pictus, also known as the African wild dog — hunts in tightly coordinated packs.

We are a software company and have no affiliation with any conservation group. But fewer than 7,000 African painted wolves remain in the wild, so please consider supporting Painted Dog Conservation.
